Art Clay Silver Workshops & Courses

Art Clay Scotland offer a variety of Metal Clay courses from "The Magic of Art Clay" for the complete beginner, to the highly regarded Level 1 and Level 2 Art Clay Silver Certificates. All of our classes are run by Senior Art Clay Silver Instructors, whose enthusiasm for this incredible product is sure to rub off on you!

Our usual slot for Art Clay Silver Classes is a Wednesday Evening. Classes are held on the Little Bead Shop premises at 96 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh. Our Wednesday Evening Classes start at 6pm and last for approximately 3 hours finishing up at around 9 pm. Times on Sunday courses vary. Please check the times for any Sunday course you are interested in. Please be sure to arrive in plenty of time to allow you to get settled.

The class fee for both The Magic of Art Clay and Ring Making with Art Clay is £45.00 per person. This includes a generous 10g of clay, lab created gemstones, and a loan of all tools. You will also be provided with one sterling silver chain and jump ring as well as a pair of sterling silver ear hooks in the Magic of Art Clay Class. Fingerprint Charms

Have you ever wondered how to get a fingerprint into pure silver? This class will show you how. Suitable even for complete beginners we will go through the basics of how to handle the clay, different ways of taking the prints, setting stones, engraving, firing and of course polishing! While you are busy perfecting your prints our Instructor will demonstrate how to make a pair of Fine Silver Cuff Links with NO SOLDERING! You will receive comprehensive instructions and sound advice on how to set your self up selling these popular keepsakes. This course is three weeks before Mothers day. Price Includes 20g of Metal Clay, 1 Sterling Silver Chain and Jump Ring.

Have you been looking for an easy way to add colour to your fired silver? Then this is the class for you. The newest member of our Team, Michelle will introduce you to UV Resin - a simple and effective way to add colour to your work! You'll have 10g of Metal Clay to play with in the morning, from this you could make a pendant or a pair of earrings, with which we will add the colour using the resin in the afternoon. You'll learn all about how to apply the resin, how to add colour or use it clear, curing times and finishing techniques. This class will open up endless possibilities for your work! Dont miss it!

This workshop is aimed at those who have no experience working with Art Clay Silver. Our Instructor will take you through all the basic techniques including: handling the clay, shaping and forming it, pre-finishing, firing times and temperature, finishing and polishing. You can embellish your piece with lab created gemstones learning how to set them easily and you can also try the syringe if you wish.

Students typically take home two finished pieces of jewellery, e.g. a pendant and a pair of earrings.

If you want to have a go at making a ring but don't know where to start then this class is for you! You will learn about sizing, forming and joining a ring shank. Our Instructor will teach you some handy tips which will make ring making with Art Clay Silver easier than you ever thought possible. It is recommended that you have some experience with art clay silver before attending this class. You will leave this class with a finished flat band ring.

Hollow Lentil Bead: Wednesday Evening 6pm - 9pm £70

Our Fine Silver Lentil Beads are amongst the most admired jewellery on the shop floor. This class is ideal if you have some metal clay experience and are looking for something a little more challenging. The majority of the class time is spent working with the clay in both wet and (mostly) dry stages with beads fired towards the end of the session. Once you have mastered this technique you can make Lentil Beads in a variety of sizes! A really great skill to add to your repertoire. Cost includes 30g of clay, paste and leather.


Working With Nature

One of the most wonderful things about Art Clay Silver is the ease in which we can incorporate nature into our work. Suitable even for the complete beginner as well as those with a little experience, this class will focus on how to take moulds using two part silicon moulding compound. Choose from sea shells to tree bark (and all sorts in between), then use these moulds with the metal clay to make stunning and wearable pieces of jewellery. We will also cover how to give your finished pieces a patina in this class! Price includes 20g of Metal Clay.

Roses Workshop - Wednesday Evening, 6pm - 9pm £50

Without a roller or spacer in sight you will learn how to craft a fine silver Rose using only your fingers. Our Instructor will show you how to craft this Rose Pendant by using simple shapes. Each and every Rose created in these classes has been as beautiful and individual as those found in nature! Cost includes 10g Clay, Fine Silver Eyelet, Sterling Silver Jump Ring & Chain. Metal Clay experience essential.

Level 1 & Level 2 Certificates

Art Clay Scotland run the world recognised Art Clay Silver Certification Courses. These have been carefully planned to guide the student through the techniques for designing and producing consistently quality work. They are held in The Little Bead Shop Classroom and spaces are limited to ensure students feel relaxed and get plenty of one to one attention from our Instructor. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available throughout the courses, and for lunch you are welcome to bring a cold packed lunch or you can stretch your legs and visit one of the tempting eateries in Bruntsfield.



Level 1 - The Level 1 Instructor Certification course takes place over 3 days and is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of Art Clay. This is an intense course following a curriculum of 7 set projects, which have been chosen to cover all the basic techniques including ring making, using the syringe for delicate open fillgree work and mirror finishing. Once you have successfully completed the projects you will receive your Certificate from Art Clay World UK. This allows you to teach introductory Art Clay Silver Classes with the support of the Guild as well as enjoy a 20% discount on any Art Clay Silver from us.

The course cost includes around 80g of Art Clay Silver, pure silver findings, stones, a complete tool kit for you to keep and the Art Clay Silver basics Book. Metal Clay Experience is ESSENTIAL.

Level 2 - The second Certification course is for you if you are looking for a very in depth knowledge of working with Metal Clay. Level 2 runs over four days and it builds on all the knowledge you gained during your Level 1. At this level advanced techniques are covered such as using gold foil, glass fusing and bezel setting of natural stones. To successfully complete your Level 2 Certification you will need to submit 3 additional pieces to the Art Clay World Uk for examination.

Once you have successfully completed this Certificate you will be entitled to a 30% on Art Clay Silver purchased from us.

The cost of course the includes around 90g of Art Clay Silver, stones, glass, Gold Products, a small toolkit for you to keep and the Art Clay Silver Advanced book. Please bring your Level 1 toolkit with you. You must have completed the Level 1 Certification to do this course.
